A photographic look at life in Jackson, Mississippi and the surrounding area
Sunning Turtles
If you look closely, you'll see a line of turtles on the floating log. I often see them crowding onto the log to get some sun. They seem to be pretty good about sharing the space though.
Look at all those turtles! It's a turtle convention! What really attracted me to this picture (besides the turtles) is the green reflections in the water, and that dead tree in the center - is there a bird perched on it?
I don't think there's a bird out there. I've looked pretty closely, but you never know!
This picture was taken in the swamp surrounding our old golf club, Bay Pointe. One of the fun things about playing there was wondering what kind of wildlife you would see. :)
Look at the size of those babies! They're huge... practically hippos! Excuse me for asking what will probably be a stupid question for our American cousins, but are the turtles pest, protected, or otherwise? Can you eat them? Bx
Oooh! I just looked at the photo again and now I see the bird! I think it's a vulture.
Turtles are sometimes pests I guess, but mostly I think it's a live and let live situation. I imagine that some people eat them, there are people who eat squirrel brains. :S I don't think it's common though.

How cool. Is this near your house?
The environment must be perfect for them to survive there. Nice shot. The enlarged view is even better.
