Skywatch Friday

Here's the brand-spanking new convention center which opened a few months ago in downtown Jackson. It's another part of the revitalization project. I love the sky and the skyline reflected in the mirrored windows. Let's hope it helps bring some life back to downtown Jackson.

Happy Friday! To see more skies from around the world, click on the skywatch link.

Newk's

This was also one of the runners up for the August theme day. Newk's is one of my favorite places to have a long lunch or a casual dinner. Their salads are excellent! I especially like the Newk's special without the chicken and pecans. Yumm!

Standard Life

This is a look at the Standard Life building downtown. I'm not sure who actually works in this building anymore - probably not SL. You can also see the King Edward Hotel in the background. It's a historic building that's being (slowly) renovated into apartments and lofts. It should be nice - let's hope it helps revitalize the downtown area!

Old Capitol Building

I have shown you the new capitol building a few times. Here's a look at the old one. It now houses a museum of state history. It has also been designated as a national historic landmark. I hope to visit the inside one of these days. You can be sure I'll take lots of pictures (if that's allowed).

Hal and Mal's

Hal and Mal's is a restaurant/venue in downtown Jackson. They have a couple of performance spaces for comedy acts, local and regional bands and sometimes plays! My husband and I stopped by last week to check out a new short play written by a local author. It was quite a show - it dealt with the very serious issue of spousal abuse, but in a touching and funny way. It was both wonderful acting and writing!

PS: A Few Good Men (the play I auditioned for a few weeks ago) has been canceled, due to (ahem) the lack of a few men, good or otherwise.
