July Theme Day: Empty

Jake's Seafood Grill is just one of the many empty properties that line the streets of the Jackson metro area. When I first moved to Jackson two years ago, this restaurant had an opening soon sign on it and I was pretty excited to try it. I don't think it ever did actually open though or if it did, it must have only been for a week or so because I drive by this place almost every day.

I took a peek inside the windows and it looks pretty nice. There's a large dining area in the circular part of the building and a nice terrace as well. But I guess this is a bad time to be opening a new business.

Perhaps the new price will tempt someone into buying the old Jake's!

Funny you posted this... just yesterday I was driving here in Rochester, NY and noticed another empty storefront. It had been a small specialty home-design store with many windows showing beautiful things. I was a little sad, and thought of how devastating the failure must have been to the owner. It's not apparent on the surface, but abandoned storefronts or restaurants mean deep failures for some poor souls.
That said... Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, new life springs forth with renewal and regeneration (though the speed at which it happens is lackluster).

beaucoup de restaurants ne vivent pas longtemps, malheureusement et la crise ne va pas aider a relancer la restauration

Emptiness is certified, we all hope that soon will open (or open again) as a fine restaurant. The place looks very nice...

Empty stores seem to be signs of the times. And it isn't very heartening when a store plans to open but never does...

Perhaps, as you say, someone...in the future...

Very fine post!

It's sad when businesses go bust. I hope someone will take this on and make it a thriving concern.

C'est bizarre, ça. Généralement, ils ouvrent quand même quelques jours ou semaines. Pour être vide, c'est vide...

Empty it looks indeed. To bad all these closures. We are still living on reserves... but they say the wave will come in after the summer. It's all over the news...:(

We will see, happily my job is secure for a few years now...

Cheers from Marcel

Worldwide issues and bad economy makes this situation very worrisome.

Afraid we are going to see a lot more of this.

Sadly, it seems there are more and more retail businesses going out of business.
