Mississippi State Bird

The mockingbird has invaded. I know there are plenty in my yard, but I've never seen them in front of the camera before. Just this weekend though, I got a whole series of this guy. I'm actually not super fond of this bird. They can be quite aggressive and territorial. I hope he doesn't chase away my other friends from the feathered squad (tm Stockholm by Pixels).

A nuisance or not, you captured him beautifully!

My son used to live in Jupiter and the mockingbird there would chase away their dogs and cats. They were always being buzzed by this one bird.

You got a good shot of this one.

I'll gladly send you some of those I have in my yard.

Beautiful shot, Halcyon. We had a lot of mocking birds in our yard at the house, too. But we also had bluejays and cardinals and I didn't think the mockingbirds were bothersome.

«Louis» didn't know the mockingbird was the state bird for Mississippi. Texas and Florida also call the Mockingbird their state bird. You are certainly right about their ability to be territorial and aggressive!

The mockingbird is the Florida state bird too! I have quite a few of them and I love hearing them sing in the morning. They don't seem to bother any of the birds in my yard, but I have been buzzed by them before and they can hit pretty hard on the head! This has only happened when I have gotten to close to one of their nests.

NOT a fan of our state bird either. Both myself and my pets have all been attacked by these little pains-in-the-arse.

A fine 'portrait' against an enviable blue sky...

Nice capture of the bird, evoking mood and beauty.

I'm not a fan of them, either, not only due to the fact they are territorial, but they are extremely noisy at the most inconvenient times.

They're not too bad. They have a lot of personality!

When my family was in Oklahoma, we had one mopckingbird that would swoop down and buzz us as we'd come and go into our house. Apparently there was a nest in the tree in our front yard--they are NOT afraid of anything! Noisy, too, but still pretty to see.
