This is the memorial to soldiers from Illinois who gave their lives during the US Civil War. I think Illinois must have lost the most men as they have the biggest monument inside the National Military Park in Vicksburg. This memorial was dedicated in 1906.
I'll be showing you different scenes from the park all week, including the USS Cairo - an old Ironsides!

Jefferson would love this building.
It sure is impressive! I really like the gold against the blue sky.
Wow, is that a golden eagle? Like Lois, it really does look impressive! Beautiful shot!
I like the way you show this from below looking up. The upward thrust emphasizes the dignity.
J'aime bien le commentaire de BSquared.
Quelle boucherie cette guerre civile... Ici j'aime bien ce soaring eagle. (Tu vois, je parle franglais parce que je n'arrive pas à parler français !)
P.S. : word verification: gutchop. Eh ben, du coup j'ai plus faim !
This is a very interesting series...
Those monuments are so important and I love the architecture!
Interesting! Since a young boy I have had an interest in the civil war era of the U.S. I am looking forward to your postings!
