Kookaburra

I don't know if this is an old gum tree, but this king of the bush did seem to be quite merry. I heard him laughing. It's a rather odd sound. He was spotted at the Jackson Zoo.

He does seem to be laughing! I have heard these (in a zoo also) and remembered that they were rather loud.

Have a great week, mon amie!

I would like to learn about birds, I'm not good to memorize their names!;)

How did you get inside the cage? I couldnt get a good bird shot for nothing at the zoo.

I'm wondering the same thing as Jim! This is a fabulous angle! And now I've got that song in my head ;-D

I do not want to give away all my secrets... but here's how I got this one. I shot this through one of the holes in the fence. Then I cropped out the fence parts at home. It works better when you have a point and shoot as the lens is smaller and can fit through the fence openings better. But I did take this one with my big Nikon.

What a nice looking bird! I don't think I have ever seen one in person before.

I don't think I have ever seen one of these. I do remember the song from my childhood. I wonder if kids today know it.

Sorry but it doesn't look like a gum tree to me :-( However, they sit anywhere and sing! A favorite perch are the electricity poles and wires right outside my house! Great photo!

I've only heard of kookaburra but never seen one...at least, I don't think I have ever seen one.

I chewed on this for awhile and have decided it is indeed an old gum tree in an aviary at the Jackson Zoo...

Laughing, heh? Maybe he was crying to be fed? ;-)

I feel so inaequate when bloggers describe the birds they are showing. I can do robin and cardinal and pelican and then my bird knowledge drops off.
