Theater District

Of course with my love of the theater, we couldn't miss seeing a show on Broadway! A friend of mine from university recommended August: Osage County. It was an especially good choice because the play was written by a Pulitzer Prize winning author from Oklahoma (my home state) and the story is even set in the great plains of the NE corner of the state.

We were lucky that Tony-nominated actress Amy Morton had recently rejoined the cast to reprise her role as Barbara. She is the hottest thing on Broadway right now and I can see why. The whole cast was strong as it's really an ensemble drama in the tradition of the greats like Eugene O'Neil. Just beautiful!

We got our tickets from the TKTS booth on Times Square where you can get half-price seats. We were right at the front, which made for some interesting angles - but it also gave me the opportunity to sneak a photo of the set which was strictly verboten!

What a magnificent set (and I love the angle)... thanks for the verboten image, Halcyon! My wife and I saw a show at Radio City last year and had second row middle seats, and was a wonderful way to experience the Rockettes (probably more so for me than my wife)...

Just the name Broadway makes me want to burst into song. Grab those earplugs. Great iconic images.

Heehee! We sure do take chances taking photos of stage sets! I'm glad you got this — I love it! It almost looks like an entire house up there — and with two-story columns to boot!

The performing arts season here will begin in a month or two. I'm already looking forward to some of the announced plays and dances! And I hope my luck holds out with the sneaky photos :)
