Doorway Detail

This is a detail on the doorways at the War Memorial Building in downtown Jackson. It was built under the Works Progress Administration. These doors were hand cast in aluminum and depict different types of war instruments and the year they first came on the scene. It's a beautiful piece of work.

Wonderful.
Isn't it amazing that so much that was done under the WPA and CCC works is still around. So well built. MB

Very original. Never seen anything quite like it.

Very interesting. So long as we are spending so much money on "stimulus," I wish some of it were going to projects like this.

it would be nice to start another WPA and try to combat some of this unemployment! nice workmanship too!

This looks like Old Ironsides from the Civil War...

It is very well done. Will you show more of the doors?

Jacob: I do have more shots of the details. I think I will try to make a collage though. And show the whole door as well. It's quite impressive.

Brian: It would be neat if we could get a new WPA. They made a lot of cool stuff in those days.

Are those the Monitor and the Merrimack (or the Virginia)?

VP: I have some shots of a real ironsides boat (the USS Cairo) that was pulled from the Mississippi river in the 1960s. It's in pretty good shape and is a really interesting display.

Thanks for the info...I'd say France, Germany and U.S. is two more countries lived in than most of the folks in the U.S.

Looking forward to more photos!

Beautiful shot! Wonder how many "war memorials" are out there ? We've got two.

Boy that redbird the other day was quite a poser!
