Theme Day: Cemetery

A cemetery theme is a good choice for October since Halloween is coming up. I even planned on showing a cemetary pic before I saw it was the October theme!

This is not a traditional American gravestone. These days, most cemeteries use flat headstones that lay flush with the ground. I guess it makes the mowing easier or something. This is an older cemetery, so there were some interesting stones and statues. I really liked this angel, especially with the setting sun illuminating her from behind.

Take a look at some of the other photo blogs that participated in October's theme day!

Nice choice...I really like the older cemeteries too.

Yes, the no-fuss, easy care lawn cemetery is more usual here now too. Upkeep and cost on such monumental marble graves must be prohibitive I guess. Plus many more people are cremated.

The backlighting is interesting, and you have managed also to bring out the details in the statue

Great shot and great subject matter. What is she holding out? Is it a flower or has it been broken off?

Where is the cemetery, please? You got me extremely curious.

yes, I like the older cemeteries too. It is heartwrenching to see how many angels became the subject of these posts. Alost of very dearly loved people represented today.

Excellent choice. Above ground cemeteries versus easy to mow ones, give me tradition anytime.

This cemetery is in Brandon. At the intersection of highway 471 and old highway 80. It's pretty small, you could easily drive by and not notice it.

The statue was not exactly a headstone. It was more like a family monument. I can't remember the name now, but there were about ten graves or so around the angel all from the same family. I think she was watching over them.

I'm not sure if she ever had anything in her hand. I think she was just making a blessing or something.

CDPB should create a collage of angels.
