One need not know the various gods and goddesses to appreciate the beauty to this one and the setting...perhaps someday you'll take some photos inside the temple if it's allowed?
That is not a Goddess for sure. It looks like just some decoration on the outside the temple showing a lady in a welcome pose wearing clothes they used to wear thousands of years ago..

An important Hindu goddess, no doubt! Looks like a fantastic temple! I loved touring the temples in India when I was in Bangalore in Feb 2009!

I don't know anything about them either, but all this white ornateness is just fantastic!
