Since my Nikon is out for repair, I may have to get on Wingscapes overload! Hope you enjoy this bright cardinal. He's always a welcome visitor at my feeder.
Mint Restaurant
I treated my husband to dinner at Mint last night. We tested their bar before and the restaurant was also good. And you'll be happy to know, the chandelier looks as good as ever.
PS: My camera is going to be out of commission for awhile. The cover to the battery compartment was broken over the holidays. I'm sending it in to the Nikon repair center and hope to have it back within two weeks (that's what they say their lead time is, please keep fingers crossed). I will try to use my old camera in the meantime, but I might have to dig into the archives for a few days.
New Home
I made it back safely from Oklahoma City despite the weather and road conditions. It was nice to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon at home before heading back to work today.
I guess times are not as bad as they seem, many of the empty lots in my neighborhood are now being built up and most of the homes are sold before construction even begins. This one is coming along quite quickly and they just laid the foundations for another home as well.
Confidential to my dearest husband - happy birthday!!!

Record Snowfall
The Oklahoma City winter snowstorm of December 2009 will be one to remember! 14.1 inches of snow!! I think we should do the holidays in Jackson next year.
Overkill?
That's a lot of lights!
Let's just say they're getting "into the season." Let's hope they are energy-efficient bulbs! Here's wishing everyone a wonderful Christmas Eve. My husband and I are in Oklahoma City and it looks like we will have a real white Christmas. Maybe we should have stayed in Jackson where it's still 65F/18C!!
Merry Christmas
The message is clear on this house. Although, had they known they might have thought of wishing my Mum a happy birthday instead!
Decorations
I hope you're ready for some Christmas decorations. I'm going to show a whole series of different light displays I've seen around town. Some people really go all out!
I've got the week off from work, so I won't be on the computer as much, but I will still take a look at all my favorite blogs when I can. Hope you are having happy holidays so far!

Fondren Building By Night
The Fondren building houses artist ateliers, workshops, boutiques and offices. I was there last Thursday to audition for a play which will be put on by the Fondren Theater Workshop. Keep your fingers crossed for me, it's sounds like a really funny show.
Happy weekend everyone, hope you're enjoying some time at home and not fighting crowds at the mall.

Holiday Decorations
Trees!
We went to a holiday party at a friend's house. They had everything decorated for the season and a different tree in every room. I can't imagine how many ornaments and such they must have!
Here's a sample of two of the prettiest ones, but I swear there were five or six in total! We had a great time in any case and hope to be invited back next year.

Woodpecker
This is a red-bellied woodpecker. Don't ask me why they call them that, as their bellies are pure white. These guys are not as common to my area as yesterday's pecker, so it's a real treat that he stopped by and posed for my camera. This photo is quite recent so perhaps he was just passing through on his way somewhere else, or maybe he's made our beautiful pines his new home!
I promise though that this is the end of the woodpecker pics for awhile. Hope you're not getting tired of them.

Adult Woodpecker
Here's what our young friend from yesterday will grow up to look like, an adult red-headed woodpecker. Perhaps this is even his mum or daddy!
Juvenile Woodpecker
I was cleaning off some digital memory cards this weekend when I found a whole pile of pictures from my Wingscapes camera that I had never looked through. About 80 percent were of house finches, but there were also a couple of nice cardinals and woodpeckers, including this young fellow. He's a juvenile red-headed woodpecker, they are all black/gray when they're young so they are less vulnerable from predators, etc. But when he grows up, he'll have a beautiful head of red feathers.
Hope you're having a nice weekend! It's going to be tough going back to work tomorrow. I'm certainly looking forward to the upcoming break!

Grand Christmas Tree
Mint Bar
Mint is a new-ish restaurant/bar in the Jackson area. My husband and I have been thinking of going there for some time and we finally did last weekend! We had drinks and desert - their chocolate cake is delicious!
A Sanders Family Christmas
Last Friday my husband and I went to see the Center Players production of A Sanders Family Christmas. It was held inside the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Ridgeland - an appropriate location since the play takes place at a Baptist church! It's a pretty cute show with lots of music and singing. Unfortunately, I couldn't take pictures during the performance, but here's a look at the set.
More Snow!
Snowy Rose
I took this picture on Friday evening when the snow was coming down and dusting everything with its white powder. I used the flash on this photo, I usually don't like night shots with flash, but I think this one didn't turn out too bad. I just hope this will be the last snow we get for the year - once is plenty for me!!
PS: I've opened a new blog where I will be posting photos from my travels both near and far. I feel like I have so many lovely photos from the places I've visited and no where to post them! I hope you'll stop by often to check it out. You can get to it by clicking here or clicking the link I've posted in the links section on my toolbar.

Winter Wonderland
We got our annual snow here in Jackson. It came a little early this year, but like always it didn't stay long. The snow that melts away quickly without leaving a mess is the kind of snow I like!
Here's a look at the 2008 snow, although this photo didn't come from Jackson proper.

Weekend Reflections from Hammond
My husband and I stopped off in Hammond, LA on our way home for a round of golf. This course is called Carter Plantation and it's a beautiful place to play.
It's quite cold here this weekend - it even snowed yesterday! It's all gone now, but I don't think I'll be getting in any golf right now. But I have good memories of last weekend's round.

The Roosevelt Hotel
The Roosevelt is New Orlean's grandest old hotel. It was closed for some time but has recently re-opened under the management of Waldorf-Astoria. My husband and I stopped by The Sazerac for drinks one evening. Our breath was taken away by the decorations in the foyer. All the lights and mirrors made it appear that the lobby had been transformed into an endless winter wonderland. Gorgeous!
Here's wishing you a very happy weekend!

Christmas Palms
Nothing beats Christmas lights on a palm tree! Every city should have some of these.
Check back tomorrow for some even more spectacular decorations in New Orleans.

Thanksgiving Hibiscus
My husband and I spent Thanksgiving with my Auntie in New Orleans. She has a beautiful home in the garden district with a magnificent garden. I just love these gorgeous hibiscus flowers and there were plenty still in bloom for the holiday.
I'll be sharing a few other photos from the Big Easy this week!

Over My Shoulder
I haven't seen the bluebirds in my backyard lately, I guess they made the wise decision not to move into my birdhouse. They would have just been pestered by the squirrels. I did get a few good shots of them while they were around though. Just look at those beautiful wings. Lovely!
Reflections from Number 12
Number 12 is my absolute favorite hole on the Colonial Course. It's beautiful in any season and I usually do pretty well on it as well!
Hope everyone had a safe and wonderful Thanksgiving. I am not looking forward to going back to work tomorrow. Click here to see more weekend reflections.

Skywatch Friday: Full Moon
This picture was actually taken a few weeks ago at the Renaissance shopping center. Although the shopping center has that authentic imitation Italian feel to it, you can't fake a fantastic full moon!
Happy Friday everyone, hope you're not suffering from post-Thanksgiving indigestion!! To see more skies from around the world, click on the skywatch link.

Wheatie Grass Thingie
I can't remember what this type of grass is called. I'm sure someone will be happy to remind me. It's been doing some latel blooming lately. I just love the way it looks against the blue, blue sky.
I'm headed to New Orleans for Thanksgiving. I won't have access to the internet, but I wish all of my American friends a wonderful long weekend. And I hope those of you outside the US have a lot to be thankful for too!
Junco
I've seen this little brother at my feeder a couple of times now. Unfortunately he never gets close enough for a full picture. He's pretty though and I hope he comes back so I can get his full portrait!
Paperwhites
I found these beautiful fragrant beauties on the golf course this weekend. You could smell them from 54 yards away. Wonderful!

Five Guys
We've got a new food chain that's got people lining up here in Jackson - it's Five Guys Burgers and Fries. My husband and I found a not-too-busy moment and slipped in. He had their signature burger and I had a grilled cheese.
The food was okay, but not something I'd queue for twenty minutes for. I did like the design of the restaurant though and how they used bags of Idaho potatoes to delineate the queue area. I just wonder how long this fad will last.

Chipping Sparrow
I believe this small friend is a chipping sparrow. If there are any experts out there who wish to clarify, feel free. I like the way he posed nicely for my camera.
