Bug Reflection

I thought I'd continue on yesterday's bug theme. The Halcyon Bug had to go in for some service last week. While I was waiting for the shuttle to take me to work, I snapped a few shots. The white bug is inside, the yellow one outside. And the sky was beautifully blue!

Skywatch Friday: Richland PO

A rare sight, the local post office parking lot empty except for the Halcyon bug. The beautiful, blue sky was the finishing touch on this scene.

Heron on the 12th

I saw this beautiful brother on the 12th hole at Deerfield golf course this past weekend. He was so intent on finding some food, he was not bothered by my snapping a couple of shots. They're usually quite sensitive.

Golf Bench

A bench on the ninth hole at the Colonial Golf Course. You can call in ahead and have your snacks and drinks ready at the turn. Now that's service!

New Friend

I believe this friend is a hairy woodpecker, but I'm not certain. I've never seen a woodpecker like this one at my feeder before. I hope he'll be back!

Rainy Days

It rained on and off all day Saturday. My husband insisted on finishing our round of golf. I abandoned and took some pictures instead. My stuff is still drying out!

Stormy Weather

We've been having a lot of storms and such down here lately. Sometimes I worry about these trees in our yard. I actually had a nightmare during this particular storm that a tree fell on our house. Luckily it was just a dream.

I hope the skies will be blue this Sunday wherever you are!

The Office

I hate to admit it, but my husband and I put in some late nights at The Office during our visit to the Mississippi Gulf Coast a few weeks ago. They were fun nights though!

The Lovely Hole

The poo makers enjoy the lovely hole at Colonial Golf Club. At least they didn't make too much of a mess on my tee. And I can see why they like this hole, it's my favorite too!

Eternal Patrol

This memorial is dedicated to submariners who remain on "eternal patrol" from their service in WWII. It gives me shivers just to think about what that means and these men who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

Another Memorial from Ocean Springs. This one was dedicated to sailors who died during WWI.

He's Red, She Said

The 10-Minute Play Festival was a huge success! We had almost every seat in the house filled. Our contribution was very well-received, we got tons of laughs. The story was about three people in the same neighborhood who are convinced their neighbor is a communist. They spy on him through the back yard, only to discover the strange noises emanating from his house were only puppies.

All the plays were good and there was plenty of laughter all night. I'm really glad I participated this year. Maybe next year too!

Diner Reflected

I took this picture from inside Mary Mahoney's restaurant in Biloxi. I was looking out the window, but the photo reflected in. It made for an interesting reflection of a diner paying his bill.

PS: If you're in the Jackson area, Fondren Theater Workshop is hosting it's fourth annual 10-Minute Play Festival. I'm directing a piece. It's going to be fun! Admission is $10 ($5 for mothers) and half the proceeds will go to arts in public schools.

Dividing the Estate

Two weekends ago, my husband and I went to see Dividing the Estate at New Stage. It was a really great story - a family drama about money and property and who's getting it. The cast was really strong. It was one of the best shows we've seen there. Bravo!

Cardinal Conversation

It's nice to see a man taking care of his lady. These two are frequent visitors to my feeder, although I don't usually see them together.

Bye-bye Mississippi College

My German class at MC has come to an end. It was fun and I think it has helped me. I wish I could take next semester's class but I can't swing it with my job. I took a few last shots when I was there last. This is the back side of the cafeteria. I really love those windows and the landscaping is nice too!

Eudora Welty Series

The three readings for the Eudora Welty New Play Series went great this weekend. The play I read for came in second place with a cash prize of $250. I wish it would have come in first, but the good news is a local theater group will probably produce it next year. I feel proud to have been the first Diane in Jackson anyway. It was a lot of fun!

New Bridge

Last week I showed you the old railway bridge. And as promised here's a look at the new US Highway 90 bridge that links Ocean Springs to Biloxi. The old road was destroyed during Katrina and they built up this replacement in record time. It's bigger and better as the middle section is high enough for ships to pass through. I believe the old bridge had one of those drawbridge-like mechanisms.

Reflecting

This photo comes to you from the Mississippi Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Ocean Springs. The memorial is really lovely, a very simple structure built of black and white granite with the names and pictures of the men who gave their lives engraved into the stone.

I was really touched by this Bible verse and the reflection is perfect. May we never forget these young men who gave their lives in the name of our country.

Bench

This bench is right in front of New Stage Theater. I've been spending my evenings there this week in preparation for the big reading this weekend. It's been fun getting to know new people and of course it's exciting to work on a brand new play!

Tonight is our evening of respite, but we'll be back in the theater at 10am tomorrow. May the best show win!

Giant Azaleas

More azalea bushings. These come to you from Shell Landing Golf Course on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi. I can't believe how full they were!!

Azaleas!

My azaleas looked beautiful this year. Sadly the blooms have now faded or blown away with the recent winds. I enjoyed them while they were here though. And I have some wonderful photographic memories!

PS: I'm going to be in a play reading this weekend at New Stage Theater. Each year the theater hosts a play-wrighting competition and the theater hosts staged readings of the top three before choosing the winner. My play is written by a local playwright, so I'm obviously rooting for her to win. It's at 3pm this Saturday, if anyone around town wants to stop by, it's free and open to the public.

Blue Man

This is my newest backyard visitor, a blue grosbeak. I've seen him at the feeder for about a week or so now. I believe he's made a home in one of my neighbor's trees. He's a beautiful friend and I'm looking forward to more visits!

Railway Bridge

This is the old railway bridge connecting the gulf cities of Biloxi and Ocean Springs. I'm not sure if the bridge is still in use or not. There is a turning portion to allow for ships to pass through, but it was always open when we drove past.

Mississippi National

This shot comes to you from the Mississippi National golf course on the gulf coast. My husband and I were paired with two other players and one of them had a false leg. That's something I really love about golf, it's a sport for everyone - men, women, young, older. We had a lot of fun playing with our new friends!

Biloxi Light

The famous (or so I'm told) structure that sits right in the middle of the main beach drag in Biloxi. It survived Katrina and is featured on the Mississippi license plate. It's also apparently a nice place to stop for a read.
