Doorway to Knowledge

The doorway to the Warren Hood Library on the Belhaven campus. I have a dear friend who works here. I am a little ashamed to say I've never actually been inside though. Maybe I'll have to change that. What do you say dear friend?

To see some fancy French doorways, visit Versailles Daily Photo.

Bench Details

A close-up of the bench I showed you a few days ago. The details look especially nice in black and white.

Beautiful Bench

This one is pretty fancy, especially for a bench on a college campus. You can find it at Belhaven College and it looks like a nice place to rest on a warm day!

Belhaven Caf

The Belhaven campus also has a really nice looking cafeteria. Very modern!

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to set up this blog for any more posts this year. I just didn't have time before leaving for Germany. I have my travel blog set up in the meantime for you to enjoy.

Thank you to everyone for your kind words and thoughts. It's going to be a sad holiday season, but it's nice to know that we have lots of people thinking of us and sending good energy.

White Hall

Here's another look at White Hall from yesterday's photo. The back side is not quite as welcoming, but it's still a nice building.

Doorway to White Hall

You can find some really nice doorways on the Belhaven campus. I like this entrance into White Hall.

I may not always have a nice doorway to show, but Ciel over in Versailles brings us a treat every Wednesday!

Fountain Reflections

A scene from the campus of Belhaven College. It's my submission to James' Weekend Reflection series.

Belhaven in Black and White

Welcome to Belhaven! It's a small private school in the heart of downtown Jackson. It was founded in 1883 by the Presbyterian church and is still going strong today.

To see more monochrome shots, get on over to the Weekend in Black and White.

Pink Pansies

I spotted these on the Belhaven campus awhile back. It's gotten pretty cold here in Jackson though, so not sure if they have survived our recent frost. I still have the picture to enjoy though.

Happy Blogiversary!

Today is the third anniversary of Jackson Daily Photo. To celebrate, I've made a collage of 36 of my favorite photos, one for every month I've been keeping this blog up. Feel free to "embiggen" and enjoy.

I'd like to thank all my "readers" and "lookers" out there. When I first moved to Jackson in 2007, I didn't really know what to expect. But I've had a lot of fun discovering this city and sharing it with others through this blog. I certainly hope you've enjoyed this ride as much as I have.

Yellow Bicycle

I've been spending a lot of time at New Stage with the show coming up. I caught this bike out in front the other day. I like the bright yellow, it somehow seems to fit.

Here's wishing you a happy weekend!

Sophia's

Sophia's restaurant is part of the Fairview Inn, however it is open to local diners as well! The food is delicious and the staff will attend to your every need.

I'm going to be out of town this weekend, but I'm putting my blog on automatic posting. Happy Labor Day everyone! Hope you all have a great long weekend.

Fairview Inn Part II

This is a close-up view on the columns in front of the Fairview Inn in Belhaven. I do love that southern style!

Confidential to my brother - happy birthday!!!

Eudora Welty House

The Welty House sits in the heart of Belhaven, just across the street from the private college that bears its name. I've always been curious about it and had sort of formed a picture in my mind of what it would look like. The real thing is more impressive than what I had conjured up.

Tours of the home are available, but must be scheduled in advance through the Eudora Welty Society. That's something that I really need to take the time to do, I'm sure it would be very interesting!

Musical Break

My husband and I enjoyed the jazz stylings of this brass trio at the recent Bright Lights, Belhaven Nights festival. There was a trumpeteer, a trombonist and (of course) a sax player. It was relaxing to stop and listen to them play for awhile. And I just love that fabulous house behind them. Hope the owners didn't mind the music!

Bright Lights, Belhaven Lights

Last weekend, the Belhaven neighborhood association hosted a street festival. There were live bands, entertainment, arts and crafts and plenty of good food and fun. Admission was only three dollars and all the proceeds go towards improving and maintaining this wonderful historic area.

My husband and I really enjoyed ourselves and I hope we'll be able to make it to next year's festival as well!

Fairview Rockers

These rockers were on the front porch of the Fairview Inn. I retouched this one a bit because the white rockers are blending in with the white wall too much. I'm quite pleased with the results, although there could still be more definition between the chairs and the wall.

The Fairview Inn

The Fairview Inn is located in Jackson's other historic district - Belhaven. We had one of our murder mystery shows at the restaurant here last weekend. It was a great crowd - more than one hundred people. And they loved the show!

I'm going to start a new label for Belhaven photos. I've got some more pictures of this lovely neighborhood to come!

Last Look at Basil's

I couldn't resist photographing this colorful wall mural. Although it's not really a coffee place, the colored cups are nice.

Inside Basil's

Basil's is a relaxed restaurant, somewhat of a deli style, although they did provide a full-service three course meal for our dinner theater. Their specialty is sandwiches - especially panini. Everything is made fresh daily, including the bread (which is delicious).

I'm sure this place gets crowded at lunchtime. They're in a prime spot, just on the edge of downtown, to get the lunch crowds from the offices and hospitals in the area. Perhaps one day I'll be able to talk my husband into taking me up there. Until then, I've got a few more weeks to wait until our next show at Basil's!
