There were two choices for music at the Crawfish Boil. Inside you got the blues-y cover band that you see here and outside was a louder crossover metal/rap band. I enjoyed both of them, although the outdoors music was a bit too loud for me.

I'm sorry to disappoint, but I didn't make it to the Saint Patrick's Day Parade this past weekend. But I found these pictures from the crawfish boil two weekends ago that I forgot to show!
We enjoyed some fresh-boiled crawfish, potatoes and corn-on-the-cob. And of course, some fresh oysters off the half-shell. There was also live music. I'll show you more of the fun tomorrow.

A close-up of the pear blooms. Unfortunately the weather has taken a strange turn and it's rather cold today. There's even a chance for snow this afternoon! Looks like I won't be out on the fairways today, hopefully next week!
Golf under the Bradford Pears
I think the extra cold winter made the pear trees even more beautiful this year. I'm glad we're getting warmer temps now. My husband and I skipped the Friday after-work drinks yesterday for some Friday golf instead!
Skywatch Friday: King Edward
The King Edward Hotel was recently renovated and has re-opened under the Hilton umbrella of hotels. It has a very rich history going all the way back to the civil war. I hope to go in sometime to visit the lobby at least. But for now I hope you'll enjoy this outside view with bonus sky reflection.

A view of sunny downtown Jackson. This weekend the big Saint Patrick's Day parade is set to take place. Hopefully it won't get rained out.
Doorway: Aboveground 119
I was torn between posting this shot today or waiting for the weekend reflection, but I finally decided to post it in honor of Ciel in Versailles, for doorway Wednesday.
This particular door leads to Gallery 119, the counterpart to the resto downstairs. It's a local art gallery that shows local artistic talents in downtown Jackson. Maybe we'll stop aboveground before going underground next time!

My husband and I made it to the MMA just in time to see the Jim Henson exhibition. I did not know this before, but Henson is a native Mississippian! He created the beloved Muppets and contributed greatly to children's educational television with his characters on Sesame Street.
The exhibit was very interesting. I learned what the puppets were made of and how they were operated. We also saw early sketches and ideas that turned into stories and characters we know and love. It's a traveling exhibit from the Smithsonian. I would definitely recommend seeing it if it comes to your area.

Underground Eats
Underground 119 has happy hour every day from 4 - 7pm, all draft beers, house wines and well drinks are 2 for 1. My husband and I took full advantage of the special. We also tried some of their food, which is served "tapas" style. They give you smaller portions of main dishes that you can mix and share. On the left is a crab meat quesidilla and on the right are barbecue gulf shrimp. Both were delicious!
Going Underground
Some friends of ours have been bragging about 119 Underground for some time. My husband and I finally frequented the bar/resto for our Friday after-work drink last week. It's a really cool place.
They had a live piano player on Friday night and our bartender told us they typically have jazz or blues on the weekends. I'll show you what we nibbled on tomorrow. But we'll definitely be back to this place!

My feeder is getting many more birds this year than in previous years. And I'm really happy the bluebird couple has moved into our little home. They both visit the feeder often and patrol to make sure no other birds get near their little nest.

Last Trees
There's a little forest area behind the eighteenth hole. I've always thought it looks a bit like a harvesting area for Christmas trees!
People say they see deer and other animals here quite often. I'm not surprised. The name Deerfield had to come from somewhere, right?

I took some pictures of different trees on the golf course this weekend. It's funny because I never noticed this dead one before. So I got to wondering if it was always like that and I never noticed, or if the recent storms and cold led to its demise. Perhaps I should ask a more observant golfer.

Weekend Reflections: Number 16
I finally got to play golf two weekends ago after a long period of cold weather here in Jackson. I guess I need to build up my stamina again though, because by the time I was at the 16th hole I was pretty exhausted. And it is the most challenging hole on the course for me, so I need the energy!
Since I abandoned the hole, I was able to focus on getting some nice shots of the water. I love the way the sunlight was sparkling on the surface. I'll be back out there again today, but hopefully my game will be better!

Another passageway from the famous "fancy" shopping center. I guess you could call it a passageway paradise, although this one is a bit too straightforward. I like the previous two better.

I saw this decorative door while wandering the Highland Colony Village and I knew it would be the perfect thing for a Wednesday post. Ciel from Versailles is always treating us with such nice doors and entrances, I hope this humble little shop door from Jackson can compare with some of those historical beauties she posts!

I couldn't decide which photo I liked better for the passageways theme. This one is maybe more visually interesting with the vines and the children's shop in the background. But I also like the round arches from yesterday.

This passageway comes to you from the Highland Colony shopping center in Jackson. It's one of those fancier-type shopping areas. I don't usually shop here, but there are some good restaurants and it's fun to walk around the courtyard area.

Unidentified Visitor
I found a new visitor to my yard on the Wingscapes! I think he's a young goldfinch. But if anyone can identify, please let me know. He's certainly a pretty and welcome visitor!
Mississippi State Bird
The mockingbird has invaded. I know there are plenty in my yard, but I've never seen them in front of the camera before. Just this weekend though, I got a whole series of this guy. I'm actually not super fond of this bird. They can be quite aggressive and territorial. I hope he doesn't chase away my other friends from the feathered squad (tm Stockholm by Pixels).
Weekend Drink
My husband and I stopped at Mint last Friday to get the weekend off to a good start. Naturally, they can make you plenty of drinks with fresh mint! My husband had a mint julep and I tried their refreshing mojito. I hope we can start next weekend off in the same way!
