Biloxi Light

The famous (or so I'm told) structure that sits right in the middle of the main beach drag in Biloxi. It survived Katrina and is featured on the Mississippi license plate. It's also apparently a nice place to stop for a read.

First Rose

My Chicago Peace rose is blooming. I've got three or four full roses on it right now and several other buds just waiting to burst. Ahhh... spring!

Elvis has left the building...

Elvis!

Here's my reason for visiting Biloxi this weekend... Elvis Costello! He is my favorite artist of all time. I last saw him in concert in Paris in 2002 at The Grand Rex. He was as spectacular today as then. He'll be in New Orleans next weekend. Perhaps another trip is in order.

Old School

The Watch They Keep was staged by the Clinton Brickstreet players inside the auditorium at the old Clinton junior high school where they have been performing for a number of years. As long as the city owned the property, they didn't mind renting it out at a reasonable price to the theater group. Unfortunately the property has been purchased by a private entity and the space will no longer be available. I hope this does not cause the Brickstreet Players to go defunct.

It's a nice old building in any case. The kids must have enjoyed those big windows back in the day.

Idyllic Friday

This picture was taken last Friday on the golf course. This is one of my favorite holes. It's a nice little par 3 over the water. And it looks fantastic when all the flowers are in bloom.

Edible Dragon

My husband took me out to Sakura Bana last Friday after work. We enjoyed several sushi rolls, including this beautiful dragon. I assure you, he tasted as good as he looks!

Live Music

After the theater, my husband and I stopped at Underground 119 for some drinks. We were lucky to catch some live music too! The band was called The Juvenators, but the man pictured here playing the harmonica was just a dude from the audience who asked if he could sit in on a couple of songs. Very cool!

My live action shots may not be up to snuff with Olivier's from Evry yet, but I'm working on it. I don't think this band was used to people taking their picture, especially with my big Nikon. I felt like a paparazzi.

The Watch They Keep

My husband and I enjoyed some more theater this past weekend. We saw the world premiere of a new play written by a local writer. The Watch They Keep centered on a family whose matriarch has descended into the depths of Alzheimer's and the toll it takes on the family. It was well-written with both serious and light-hearted moments. I hope it will be seen outside of Mississippi soon!

Hawthorne

This is the first picture I've posted that was taken with the new Nikon D3000. These hawthornes are in my very own yard. It's the first time I've ever seen them bloom.

The Baptist Health Center is located on the Mississippi College campus. I pass this building every time I go to my German class and it always catches my eye. Now that the weather is getting nicer, I thought I'd stop to catch the window reflections.

I was called for jury duty last week. Luckily, it hasn't been a full two years since I served on a jury and I was excused. As I was leaving, I got this wonderful shot of the courthouse with a blue, blue sky overhead. It was too pretty out to sit around judging someone anyway!

A Dip?

The hospital where I take the yoga class also has a lovely indoor pool. I've never actually swam there, but it looks like it would be heavenly with all the windows and skylights.

Azaleas and Parking

The azaleas are starting to bloom! The ones in my yard are ready to burst open at any moment, but I caught these outside the hospital where I take yoga. Lovely!

Alumni Hall

Another one of the impressive brick buildings on the MC campus. I love all the archways they have over the windows and doorways.

Gold Friend

A cute little goldfinch flew by to say hi! It's nice to be back in Jackson where the temp is up. Seattle was fun, but I wasn't too sad to leave the wet, cold weather. For that reason, I didn't get many photos but I'll put some up on my other blog when I finish my New York series.

Spring at the Golf

Yellow daffodils really brighten up the course. I wonder if these were planted here in a row on purpose or if they have just migrated. This little hill seems an odd place to plant a line of flowers, but it does look nice!

April Theme Day: Red

A red bud tree in full bloom on the Mississippi College campus. I'm still keeping up with my German class every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. I just hope it will come in handy one of these days.

Mahler's Resurrection

My husband and I went to the symphony this weekend. In honor of the Easter season, they played Mahler's Second Symphony - commonly known as the Resurrection Symphony. It was absolutely gorgeous! Chock full of drama and tension and musical beauty. The third movement included a choir of around 200 people and two soprano soloists. Fantastic!

It's too bad the water is so muddy, but you can see one of my golf friend's head poking up for some air!

It seems like these birds just wanted to know what's going on with us. Or maybe they were upset because the feeder was empty!

Sweet Lady

This is Ella. We're old friends from way back. Some friends of mine had a party last weekend to celebrate St. Patrick's Day and of course I would never say no to a party! Ella and her friend Beauregard patrolled the party to make sure everything stayed clean. But it was pretty tiring work and every lady needs a break!

PS: I finally broke down and bought a Nikon D3000 through Amazon. It should be on it's way this weekend and I hope to have it by Monday. As you can imagine, I'm pretty excited.

Weekend Theater

Since I couldn't make it to the golf course this weekend, I went to the theater instead! The New Stage acting interns put on a hilarious performance of Shakespeare Abridged. Seriously, I was rolling in the aisles laughing, it was that funny!

I can't claim proprietorship of this photo, it was a picture they were using to advertise. Although it's plain to see what's going on here - I'll explain the scene a bit. This is the scene where Hamlet meets his father's ghost on the ramparts: The left actor is the ghost, the middle actress is Hamlet and the actor on the right is the dude who was with Hamlet when he saw the ghost (can't remember his name, feel free to fill me in).
