A photographic look at life in Jackson, Mississippi and the surrounding area
Blue Man
This is my newest backyard visitor, a blue grosbeak. I've seen him at the feeder for about a week or so now. I believe he's made a home in one of my neighbor's trees. He's a beautiful friend and I'm looking forward to more visits!
The first time I saw him at my feeder, I thought someone's parakeet had gotten loose! I'll have to get a picture with his wings as well. They're very pretty.
I'm a little sad though b/c it seems my bluebirds have flown the nest. Haven't seen them for awhile. I was so looking forward to some baby bluebirds. :(
He definitely is a beauty. The bird feeder looks in good shape. Squirrels continually destroy our feeders. Went out yesterday and got a supposed squirrel proof feeded; watched the little devils this morning. They've learned to shake the feeder which drops the seed on the ground where they feast!!
that's so great you've got these guys at your feeders! Lucky! (and i like the feeder too..cool). I can't wait to have a place to hang up some feeders :)
Kate: This bird feeder is "squirrel-proof". It has springs that pull down the landing portion and block access to the food if something too heavy gets on there. I've gotten pictures of a squirrel on it once. But I think they mainly don't like it b/c the openings are too small for them to get much out of. I've been really happy with it. I got it at Lowe's for around $25 I think.
Thanks for all the comments! Hope to have some more colorful visitors to show you soon!

He is a lovely shade of blue. I hope he visits you often!
Ooh, his shade of blue is just stunning! I've never seen anything like it and I love it!
We have grosbeaks in Michigan but not the Blue fellow. He is a stunner.
Great photo. These things take time, and you've captured a great one.

Oh my gosh, he's a beauty! I've never seen one in person. Lucky you!
I don't think my comment went through so I'll say again this bird has amazing color and you're fortunate to have it visit you at your home!
