More of the Little Man

I just can't stop taking pictures of the hummers. How could you resist a sweet little man like this one? He was shaking off a bit of rain at the time this photo was taken. Even the drops would not keep him from his guard post at the feeder. I've seen at least three other little men vying for his spot, but he keeps them all at bay. I've tried telling him there's enough juice for everyone, but he doesn't listen.

Cool shot... now, if he'd only 'learn the words' and stop humming! haha

I've made the same observation. Even when there's obviously enough food to go around for all feathered friends, they still seem to spend more energy fighting each other than actually eating.

A great photo and so interesting to see all the feathers fluffed out like that.

Nice shot! It's funny, how competitive birds can be. I watch some in my backyard, where we have more than enough space & seed for everyone, but they expend all this energy trying to chase one another away. I guess "bird-brained" is apt in this case!

Our Hummers have become unusually active at the feeder. I think they are getting ready to head south, soon.

I have found hummers to be very persistent and not very good listeners ;-) They will guard their feeder at all costs, even if there are a dozen more feeders around the yard. The females are much more accommodating than the males.

But isn't that what makes them so much fun to watch?

I'm hooked on photographing the hummers while they're here too. They'll be leaving my area within a couple weeks.

For such little birds they sure can show a lot of aggression...
