Thirsty?

All kinds of birds are welcome to stop by my water bowl for a drink! And I get a lot of mourning doves.

Unknown Soldier

Mississippi's take on the tomb of the unknown solider. I have never seen the one in Washington, but I think this is a nice tribute. It stands in the courtyard of the War Memorial Building. It's an old Art Deco style structure built under the Works Progress Administration. I'll show you more this week.

Graffiti Be Gone

This was my runner-up choice for yesterday's theme day. You can see where the city has painted over some tags. This is the old high school which has been converted to a "cultural" center, but I won't go further into my feelings on that subject today.

Hope you are having a nice weekend. It's perfect golf weather here. I'll probably check out the final round of the Viking Classic tomorrow. Maybe I can even sneak in a couple of shots, though they typically check your bags and such for cameras. Maybe I can get an iPhone shot at least.

October Theme Day: Toilet Graffiti

For today's theme day, I'm taking you into the forbidden (for some) territory of the women's bathrooms at Hal and Mal's restaurant. I guess if you're being technical, this is not really graffiti as it was painted this way on purpose. But there's a dearth of graffiti in this town, so this was the best I could find. And I'm sure English speakers will get a laugh from the play on words.

We actually had a graffiti theme day at CDP before and I showed another one of the stalls. You can check it out here. And I've got some bonus graffiti on my travel blog, so check it out!

Shopping Bench

Yet another bench from the Renaissance shopping center. I still haven't come up with anything for tomorrow's theme day yet. I'd better get on that today!

Old Entrance

It's Wednesday doorways and I have the former entrance to a law firm for you. This building isn't very old, but I guess it just hasn't found the right tenants yet. Let's hope they find someone soon, or I'm afraid this place will get old before its time.

Majestic 10

I found this grate on the outside of a local building. I don't know what it's protecting, just that it's a majestic no. 10.

Toronto was great fun. I'll have a couple of pictures up later this week on my travel blog.

Cardinal

I believe this is a young brother going through his first molt. That red is coming out quite nicely though!

Today's Flowers

I am really honored to be this week's guest host at Today's Flowers. I hope you enjoy this collage of some of my best flower shots from over the summer.

Round Reflections

A porthole-like window at the old Madison-Ridgeland High School reflects some trees across the street and a water tower in the distance.

Cotton Field and Cotton Clouds

A cotton field that stretches as far as the eye can see!

Happy Friday!! To take a peek at other skies around the world, click on the skywatch link.

Two Windows and a Kitty

The kitty was sort of shy, but I managed to get him from a distance.

I'm flying to Toronto this afternoon. Enjoy JDP on auto pilot. I'll try to stop by when I can!

Blue Doorway

This is the doorway into the old Madison Station elementary school. I peeked into a few of the windows and it's really a shame this building is not in use anymore. It's just next to the old high school which has been converted to a "cultural" center.

Maybe one day these buildings will truly find a new use. I hope so!

Twisty

I love staircase shots. This one comes to you from the Old Capitol building downtown. It was a fun place to explore.

Hi There

I swear sometimes these birds know there's a camera on them. This little guy is just a common bluejay, but I like him.

Capitol Bench

A nice bench in the shade just outside the Mississippi State Capitol building. It's a nice place to stop for a rest, especially on a hot day.

Reflections of a Lawyer

The Old Capitol reflected in the law offices of Joe M. Hollomon.

Blue Skies over the Capitol

A beautiful blue sky over the Mississippi State Capitol Building. If you haven't noticed, I'm using this shot for my header photo now.

Old Capitol: Senate Room

One of the beautifully renovated ceilings in the Old Capitol building. This one is found in the Senate chamber.

Mississippi Dome: Part Two

This is the dome on the old state capitol building of Mississippi. This building was used by the state congress, senate, supreme court and the governor until 1903. It's now on the national register of historic places and was recently restored and refurbished as a museum. To learn more about the old capitol, click here.

I also have another capitol building up on my travel blog.

Mississippi Dome

A view up into the dome of the Mississippi Capitol building. A security guard let us in to get a quick shot, but so far this is all I've seen of the inside. Maybe some day I'll get to see more!

Once again, I've got another dome picture up on my travel blog. Check it out!

Mississippi State Capitol

A "full frontal" look at the capitol building that's right here in Jackson. Unfortunately the building is not open to visitors during the weekend, but I got this view of the outside at least.

I've also got another state capitol on my travel blog. I think this week is going to be capital!

Green and Bridge

I finally found another bridge here in Jackson! In the distance, behind the green leafy stuff is a causeway over the Reservoir.

Wired Reflections

The old capitol building reflected in the window of a cafe across the street.

Golden Sky

A small patch of gold in the otherwise pink sky.

Happy Friday everyone! I'm off to New Orleans, hope you have fun wherever you are. Don't forget to click on the skywatch link to see more skies from around the world.

Liberty Bell

A close-up on the bell that stands in front of the Mississippi state capitol building. My mother-in-law is visiting us from Germany this week. I haven't had a lot of time for commenting, but I have taken a lot of new photos for this blog!

Old Doorway

The entrance into the former Madison-Ridgeland High School. The building is now owned by the city of Madison and is used as a "cultural" center. I don't know of any cultural events that actually go on here and a local theater group was denied usage of the old stage area. But I guess we must at least put up appearances of supporting culture and the arts.

Check out Versailles DP for more majestic doorways.

Impatiens

A close-up on some lovely pink impatiens.

More of the Little Man

I just can't stop taking pictures of the hummers. How could you resist a sweet little man like this one? He was shaking off a bit of rain at the time this photo was taken. Even the drops would not keep him from his guard post at the feeder. I've seen at least three other little men vying for his spot, but he keeps them all at bay. I've tried telling him there's enough juice for everyone, but he doesn't listen.

Confidential to my Mother-in-Law: Zum Geburtstag viel Gluck!

First Baptist and Mini

As promised, here's the "full frontal" of First Baptist Church of Madison. I actually took two shots, one with the Mini and one without. Somehow I think the Mini adds something. Happy Sunday!
