Wired Reflections

The old capitol building reflected in the window of a cafe across the street.

Golden Sky

A small patch of gold in the otherwise pink sky.

Happy Friday everyone! I'm off to New Orleans, hope you have fun wherever you are. Don't forget to click on the skywatch link to see more skies from around the world.

Liberty Bell

A close-up on the bell that stands in front of the Mississippi state capitol building. My mother-in-law is visiting us from Germany this week. I haven't had a lot of time for commenting, but I have taken a lot of new photos for this blog!

Old Doorway

The entrance into the former Madison-Ridgeland High School. The building is now owned by the city of Madison and is used as a "cultural" center. I don't know of any cultural events that actually go on here and a local theater group was denied usage of the old stage area. But I guess we must at least put up appearances of supporting culture and the arts.

Check out Versailles DP for more majestic doorways.

Impatiens

A close-up on some lovely pink impatiens.

More of the Little Man

I just can't stop taking pictures of the hummers. How could you resist a sweet little man like this one? He was shaking off a bit of rain at the time this photo was taken. Even the drops would not keep him from his guard post at the feeder. I've seen at least three other little men vying for his spot, but he keeps them all at bay. I've tried telling him there's enough juice for everyone, but he doesn't listen.

First Baptist and Mini

As promised, here's the "full frontal" of First Baptist Church of Madison. I actually took two shots, one with the Mini and one without. Somehow I think the Mini adds something. Happy Sunday!

Church Reflected

This is the First Baptist Church of Madison as reflected in the windows of the old Madison-Ridgeland High School. Check back tomorrow for a full frontal view.

Until then, I hope you enjoy my reflection and the many others at James' Weekend Reflections site.

Sunset at the Rez

Another shot of the sun going down over the Reservoir.

Happy Friday everyone! All of us Americans will be enjoying a long weekend with the Labor Day holiday this Monday. To see more skies from around the world, click on the skywatch link.

Stating the Obvious

It seems pretty obvious to me that you should step down when you see stairs. But I guess some people need reminding.

Confidential to my brother: Happy Birthday!!!

September Theme Day: Markets

This is the Freshway Produce stand. I try to buy my fruits and veggies there when I can as I prefer to support local growers, but sometimes it just isn't isn't convenient to shop at two or more places.

As you can see, they offer a lot more than just produce! There are also flowers, jams and jellies, honey, cold drinks... it's a nice place to wander around a bit. And their cantaloupes cannot be beat.

To see more markets from around the world, check out CDP's September theme page. I've also posted a bonus market picture here.

Wishing for a Rainbow

I was hoping to get a rainbow through the sprinklers one morning at the golf, but the light was too diffuse. Ah well, maybe next time!

Colibri

I have two little hummers that constantly buzz around my backyard. It's funny because one will sit here on the hook and guard the nectar, but he'll only take a few sips every now and then. They're not shy birds by any means. They will buzz around my head when I go outside to fill up the other feeder or to water my flowers.

This photo was taken with my Nikon D3000, not the Wingscapes. I took a few through the window and cropped them down. I'm very pleased with the result. The only sad thing is there's no size reference. In reality, this guy is only about two inches long, a really tiny fellow.

Please stop by Bird Freak to see more of our feathered friends from around the world.

Sofa Bench

This is another seating option at the Renaissance shopping center. They really offer shoppers a wide variety of places to rest. It reminds me a bit of a sofa with those high, curvy arms. I'll have to test the comfort next time I'm there.

Snobby Reflections

This is one of Jackson's biggest law firms which is known locally as Butler Snob. The fact that they just built this brand new building in the ritzy part of town probably doesn't do anything to dispel that reputation, but it's nice looking and the windows make for a great reflection.

Confidential to my sister: Happy birthday!!

Lightning on the Rez

Today's photo comes to you from a friend of mine, Abhinav. He was at the Reservoir the other day watching a storm on the other side. He was lucky enough to catch this bolt while there was still a lot of light in the sky. It's a great shot!

Morning Golf

It was so hot before I left for the cruise that my husband and I had to resort to rounds in the morning before work. I'm not much of an early bird, but I found that my game was not too bad in the wee hours. And the light was nice too!

Italian Bench

A bench with a built-in table at the Renaissance shopping center. There are actually a lot of interesting sitting options in the shopping area.

Cobblestone

A cobblestone sidewalk found at the Renaissance shopping center.

The Bahamas cruise was fantastic - so relaxing! It's been tough work catching up though. I don't feel like doing anything except laying about. And I sort of miss Mickey Mouse too!

To see some photos, check out my travel blog.

Young Mockingbird

This young mockingbird looks like he just enjoyed a bite of the oranges I put out for him and my other feathered friends. He may need some help from Mom and Dad though, looks like he's got a little piece of orange stuck in his beak there.

Lofty

One of the more popular shops at The Renaissance shopping center. I think the orangey color looks nice against the sky.

Hope you had an enjoyable weekend. I'll be back tomorrow.

Bench for Sale

Reflections in a shop window with a nice bench for sale.

Watertower at Dusk

Nothing beats a pinkish blue sky. This one is set off by the Ridgeland water tower.

Happy Friday everyone! Click on the skywatch link to see more skies from around the world. I'm still out cruising the Bahamas, but hope you are enjoying my auto posts while I'm away.

Tunnel Vision

An outdoor corridor at the Madison Community Center. This building used to be an elementary school, but the city grew so much they had to build several new ones and this one was abandoned. It makes for some nice photos for sure.

Hope you are still enjoying Jackson DP on auto pilot.

Downtown

A side view of Hal and Mal's restaurant. It's a popular place to dine and be entertained in downtown Jackson. They have several different rooms where live bands play and sometimes even theater events are staged there. It's always a fun place to go.

Please enjoy JDP on auto pilot until I return.

Crisis?

The housing crisis seems to have come to an end in my neighborhood. Several new houses have gone up and most of them are sold already. But there are still a few empty lots, in case you want to build your dream home down here in Mississippi!

I hope you are enjoying Jackson Daily Photo on auto pilot. I'll be back soon!

Lady Fledgling

Hi there. It's me, the little cardinal fledgling who likes to visit your feeder. Thanks for all the seeds!

Hope you are enjoying Jackson Daily Photo on auto pilot. I'll have some new travel photos upon my return.

Smart Lion

I almost thought I had been swept away to Livorno when I saw this lion the other day. But then I realized I was still here in Jackson. I knew this because the lion didn't have a silly face.

I hope you are enjoying Jackson Daily Photo on auto pilot.

Reflections

This bench might be a nice place to sit and do some reflecting. Or you could admire the reflections in the window.

I'm going to be off for a week doing some reflecting in the Bahamas. I won a Disney cruise as part of a drawing at work and vacation time has finally rolled around. Please enjoy Jackson Daily Photo on auto pilot until I return.

Fancy Hotel

This Hyatt is quite new to the Jackson area and it looks pretty nice. The yellowish tint looks nice against the blue sky at dusk.
