These watermelons look plenty tasty. I only buy them if we're having a party or something , it's too difficult for two people to eat an entire melon. They are quite tempting though!
Oranges
The fruit stand has some tasty looking specimens on offer. My huband and I recently bought an orange press, so we've been making our own juice. Most everything tastes better when it comes from the stand - they haven't let me down yet. I'm sure the oranges and grapefruit won't be any different.
As you can see, I've changed the look of my blog. I'm still not sure if this will be the final version, but any tips, advice would be welcome.

Last Look at Basil's
I couldn't resist photographing this colorful wall mural. Although it's not really a coffee place, the colored cups are nice.
Inside Basil's
Basil's is a relaxed restaurant, somewhat of a deli style, although they did provide a full-service three course meal for our dinner theater. Their specialty is sandwiches - especially panini. Everything is made fresh daily, including the bread (which is delicious).
I'm sure this place gets crowded at lunchtime. They're in a prime spot, just on the edge of downtown, to get the lunch crowds from the offices and hospitals in the area. Perhaps one day I'll be able to talk my husband into taking me up there. Until then, I've got a few more weeks to wait until our next show at Basil's!

New Arrival!
Lately my laptop has been running hot and slow, so one day I just decided to trade it in for a newer model. Here it is... a flamingo pink Dell XPS 1530. So far, I'm very happy with it - it's light, fast and not too hot.

At the PO
Tonight my show with Mississippi Murder Mysteries opened at Basil's restaurant. Basil's is right next door to McDade's Market.
As someone mentioned, Basil's is on the site of the old Jackson Post Office. Eudora Welty previously used this very window to send in her manuscripts to her publishers. Pretty neat. I'll show you more of Basil's later this week.
PS: The show went really well. I got a lot of compliments on my acting which is encouraging because dinner theater shows are always a little silly on paper. I'm glad it went over well with the audience.

Juleps
Juleps is one of my favorite bars in the Jackson area. They have an extensive drink list, but their specialty is martinis. The bartenders there make a mean choco-tini. It's scrumptious - a dessert in itself!

My husband and I spent some of our economic stimulus check at the Williams-Sonoma. They always know how to make pots and pans look really good!
Stylish Shopping
The Renaissance is Jackson's latest shopping area. It's one of those "outdoor" malls with lots of pedestrian areas and ambiance. It's actually not too bad, it sort of reminds me of Val d'Europe - an area in the Parisian suburbs near to where I used to live.
Right now there are not a lot of shops open there. Many of the upscale stores have moved out of the traditional mall and relocated here. I hope they will fill up with some more bars and restaurants though because it would be a really nice place to hang out in the evenings.

Greetings from Denver!
I was in Denver this weekend. My husband had a training course to do there and I tagged along for the fun.
This is a look at the rockies just outside of Denver near the Loveland Pass just at the continental divide. It was over 100 degrees in the city, but only 68 up here - brrr!!!

We stopped at the pass on our way to the Keystone Bluegrass and Beer Fest. Some friends of ours took us there and it was quite a good time. We tasted microbrews from all over Colorado, talked and listened to some live music. Keystone is a cute resort town with its own style. Seeing the slopes almost made me want to take up winter sports again.
Funnily enough, I have never actually been skiing or boarding in the US. All of my mountain experience has been in the French or Swiss Alps. Perhaps I'll give the Rockies a go next winter!

Herb Teas
These herbal teas were on offer at the farmer's market. I did not try them, but perhaps I will one of these days. For now, I'm still working on the loose leaf teas I brought back from the Winterfeld Markt in Berlin!
Theme Day: Metal
Today's theme day is metal. I'm giving you a look inside the former spare parts warehouse at my place of employment. The powers that be decided it would be a good idea to send all the parts up to Raleigh. Soon this warehouse space will be fixed up and polished for its next inhabitant - surge arresters!

Old Married Couple
As of yesterday, my husband and I are now out of the newlywed phase. I have really enjoyed my first year of married life. There's no one I'd rather share my life with and getting married was one of the best decisions I ever made.
We went out to dinner at Char's last night. It's my husband's favorite steak restaurant. Naturally, he had the steak and I had a tuna steak. Both were delicious, but filling!
So instead of eating our cake last night, we had it for breakfast this morning. To be honest, this cake is not really one year old. We got married in NYC with friends and family and later had a reception in OKC with the entended family and friends. The cake was still as good (if not better) as the first serving.
PS: Thanks for all the comments and well-wishes yesterday. I really feel like I have built a group of "virtual" friends through this blog. My morning blog tour is one of the best parts of my day. I enjoy getting to know different places and people through your pictures and stories!
Jackson Farmer's Market
After our bust at the Belhaven Market, we headed to the fairgrounds to see what the Farmer's Market had to offer.
There were plenty of fruit and vegetable stands. We purchased some cherry tomatoes and some hot peppers. The tomatoes were delicious in our salad and we sauteed the peppers - yum! Although I don't know if we'll be back at the Farmer's Market either. It's somewhat of a long drive and we do have a fruit stand just around the corner. But I am glad we tried both markets.
PS: Today is my one year anniversary! One year ago, my husband and I were tying the knot at City Hall in the Big Apple. Nice memories!

The Belhaven Market was a little disappointing. There weren't really very many booths - this was the main aisle, and there were a few more booths around the corner.
Craft booths dominated the scene, although I was hoping for more fruit and vegetable stands. There was one "food" booth. Although it advertised eggs and produce, there was only a small basket of oldish tomatoes on offer.
One thing did make up for the challenges of this market - free pizza! I didn't actually have any, but one of the local pizza joints was offering up free slices to those who stopped by. I thought that was a pretty nice thing to do. It's just too bad it didn't draw in more people.

Belhaven Market
My husband and I finally went to check out the Belhaven market this weekend. I must admit, it was a little disappointing compared to the markets we're used to in Europe. But at least they are trying!

McDade's
McDade's is the only remaining locally owned grocery store in Jackson. I don't actually shop there because there aren't any locations near where I live. But I have always admired this particular branch on the fringe of downtown Jackson. I like the old-English look I guess.

Mietz Mietz!
This is my sister's kitty. His name is Hubert, but I like to call him Mietz Mietz (that's German for kitty) or Mietzle Mietzle. He is a mix of Siamese and Manx and about the cutest thing on 4 paws. Notice the freckle on his nose.

Psychedelic Owls
Keeping with the animal theme, I found this painting at my local library. They were having an exposition of local artists. For some reason, I found them very compelling. Must be the colors!

I've been spending quite a bit of time in the Turtle Ridge subdivision lately. The director/producer of Mississippi Murder Mysteries lives there and we rehearse in her home. Each of the mailboxes in the neighborhood is adorned with a cute little turtle like this guy.
So far, we have three shows schedueld for August. I hope a few more come through, I'm ready to start doing some performances!

My husband and I have had a great time visiting in OKC. Although the people around here find the heat miserable, we actually enjoyed a respite from the heat and humidity of Jackson.
Tomorrow I'll be back to my regular Jackson posting, but I hope you enjoy this look at the Oklahoma City Seal. I found it in the Will Rogers World Airport, which recently underwent a major rennovation (which was a huge success btw). Sometimes I actually miss my home city!
Reader's Theater
The Fondren Theater Workshop hosted a New Play Project for local playwrights this weekend. It was set up in a reader's theater format. A few of my friends were involved, so I went to check it out. It was quite enjoyable and I was happily surprised to find some very talented writers right here in Jackson. Let's just hope they don't leave for Hollywood or somewhere a tad more exciting!
Dragonfly
This dragonfly is made by the same artist who made the previous butterfly. I really like mosaics, they're so pretty.

Butterflies - Part 2
I really love this butterfly mosaic. Unfortunately, it was also out of my price range (even more so than the cork artwork). The sparkly mirrors and glass are just so pretty. I'm sure my sister would have loved this, especially since the main color is green - her favorite!

My sister's birthday is coming up and I want to get her something special (it's one of the milestones). So I headed over to the Mississippi Craft Center this weekend. My sister loves butterflies and they have many unique items there.
These butterflies certainly qualify as unique! They are made entirely from wine corks. Either of them would make a lovely gift, but unfortunately they are out of my price range. I'm still looking, if anyone has any gift ideas.

Bottle Tree
I spotted this bottle tree at the Mississippi Crafts Center. They are very popular here in the south, many people have them in their backyards around the golf course. They can be very pretty, especially with colorful bottles.
Halloween
I was in Michael's the other day, when I was bothered by all these strange sounds emanating from one of the aisles. When I went to investigate further, I saw that it was a bunch of Halloween decorations making creepy sounds and whatnot. I found it all really annoying. I'm not sure who buys those silly animated things. I much prefer the signs and cute statues and stickers.
